Go on a Journey through the Signs of the Cultural Capital!

To strengthen the sense of belonging to the year of the Latvian Cultural Capital in each association of Cēsis municipality and to highlight this year’s theme “Culture in Heads, Castles, and Yards,” eight new large-scale environmental objects have been placed. These signs, located in Cēsis, Āraiši, Ieriķi, Jaunpiebalga, Līgatne, Priekuļi, Straupe, and Vecpiebalga, symbolize each place’s connection to the year of Latvian culture, our municipality’s rich cultural heritage, and invite everyone to participate in the cultural events of 2025.

Notably, both the visual message and the large-scale objects were created by local residents. The logo was designed by Jānis Bremmers, while the environmental objects were made by the company SIA “Bumbierkoks.”

Gatis Poikāns, a representative of SIA “Bumbierkoks,” says: “It is an honor and joy to be part of the municipality’s ambition – to be the first. This time – becoming the first Latvian Cultural Capital. We have previously created large-scale environmental objects, so using our experience and skills, we enthusiastically created these impressive signs. We made them together with my colleague Māris Kalniņš from plywood. The base is reinforced with screw piles, ensuring durability in various weather conditions. May these signs serve well and delight both local residents and visitors!”

We invite locals and visitors to embark on a cultural sign journey – visit these places, discover the riches of the municipality, and, of course, capture special moments by the signs! Take photos or videos, share them on social media, and tag the Cēsis profile or use the hashtag #cēsis2025 to be part of a community of travelers and culture enthusiasts.

These signs are part of a broader initiative that strengthens the local community and highlights our municipality’s cultural wealth. This year, Cēsis, with the theme “Culture in Heads, Castles, and Yards,” shines as the Latvian Cultural Capital, offering a diverse cultural event program throughout the year.
